Monaco is often described as the playground of the rich and famous, with its glittering casinos, luxury yachts, and designer boutiques. It is also known as the second-smallest country in the world, this glamorous principality might be tiny, but it’s bursting with history, elegance, and stunning views of the French Riviera.

Monaco has been on my travel bucket list for ages, and while it does have a reputation for being pricey, I quickly learned there are plenty of free and affordable things to do in Monaco that make it accessible even for us non-billionaires. 😀

Here’s my JAYScapades guide to the top attractions and best things to do in Monaco—whether you’re here to explore royal palaces, stroll through Mediterranean gardens, or simply enjoy the glitz and glamour without breaking the bank.
1. Serve Some Main Character Energy at Jardin Saint-Martin

The Jardin Saint-Martin is one of Monaco’s most beautiful free attractions. The garden is filled with sculptures and shady paths (which is a need during summer!). This is also where you can have a panoramic view that looks almost too perfect to be real. It’s an ideal spot to slow down, breathe in the Mediterranean air and take those million-dollar selfies and outfit checks!
2. Live a Fairytale at the Prince’s Palace of Monaco

The official residence of the Grimaldi (The Royal) family. Perched on the Rock of Monaco, make sure to catch the Changing of the Guards at 11:55 AM sharp before exploring the rest of Monaco.

3. Visit the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate

Also known as the Monaco Cathedral, this striking white stone church is both peaceful and impressive. Inside, you’ll find elegant architecture and the final resting place of some of the Royals. Whether you’re religious or drawn by history and architecture. This is one of the must-see landmarks in Monaco.

4. Turn heads at the Famous Monaco F1 Hairpin Turn

World-famous for its Formula 1 Grand Prix, and the iconic Fairmont Hairpin Turn makes you realize just how tight the curve really is. I may not be into F1, but my thoughts usually are racing at a solid 200+ km/hr! 😀

5. Experience Luxury at One Monte-Carlo

Now we’re talking about something more interesting! Haha For a taste of Monaco’s glamorous shopping scene, head to One Monte-Carlo, the luxury open-air promenade. Here you’ll find all the best luxury brands in one location under the warm, blue Mediterranean sky. Even if shopping isn’t in your budget, this is a reminder that window-shopping is always free. 🙂

6. Soak Up the Atmosphere at the Casino de Monte-Carlo

The Casino de Monte-Carlo is Monaco’s most iconic attraction. Even if you don’t gamble, stepping inside is like entering a palace with its sparkling ceilings, marble columns, and shining shimmering chandeliers. Outside, you can people-watch by the fountains and admire the line-up of luxury cars basically, a free car show.

If you are looking for a Café De Paris alternative just because it’s always fully booked! head to Larvotto Beach, Monaco’s most popular public beach. Recently renovated, it offers soft pebbles, calm turquoise waters, and a lively promenade filled with cafés and restaurants. You can have a relaxing view of the beach while overhearing how rich people laugh while having conversations about birkins and businesses. Monaco lifestyle just hits different!
