My JAYScapades Guide: Top 7 Things to do in Menton

Menton will always be special to me. It’s my second time visiting and I just couldn’t get enough of its charm and beauty. Known as the “Pearl of France”, it is a seaside town that feels like a secret garden with its pastel houses, Mediterranean vibes, and endless sunshine. Menton is one of the places that is calm, peaceful and gives that stillness you need for reflection and soaking up a serene atmosphere.

If you’re planning a trip and wondering about things to do in Menton, here’s my JAYScapades guide to the best attractions, photo spots, and experiences you shouldn’t miss. Enjoy Menton!

1. Explore and catwalk through the Old Town

Menton’s Old Town is a maze of winding alleys, pastel-coloured houses, and sudden glimpses of the sea between buildings. It’s one of those places where you don’t really need a map, you just let yourself get a little lost while strutting through its narrow streets. Climbing up to the Basilica of Saint-Michel-Archange is worth it for the views alone.

2. Strike a pose at the Iconic Les Rampes Saint-Michel

The iconic zigzagging staircase of Les Rampes Saint-Michel is one of Menton’s most photographed spots. Painted in a warm yellow and leading up to the basilica, it’s the perfect backdrop for that Riviera photo opportunity.

3. Visit the Basilique Saint-Michel Archange de Menton

This is Menton’s crown jewel, perched dramatically above the Old Town with sweeping views of the sea. Designed in Baroque style, it became the centerpiece of Menton’s Old Town and has remained one of the most important religious monuments on the French Riviera.

4. Daydream on Menton’s beaches

Unlike its glitzy neighbors, Menton’s beaches are laid-back and less crowded. Whether you prefer pebbly shores or sandy coves, this is the perfect place to grab a lemon gelato and soak up the sunshine in peace.

5. Indulge in Lemons Everywhere

Menton’s lemons aren’t just fruit, it’s part of their lifestyle. From lemon pastries and liqueurs to candies and smoothies, you’ll find citrus everywhere. If you’re lucky enough to visit during February, the Lemon Festival is highly anticipated. Think festive parades, citrus sculptures, and a town that smells like fresh zest.

6. Stroll through the Gardens of Menton

Menton is also nicknamed as a ‘garden city’. The Jardins Biovès are Menton’s central public gardens which feature seasonal flower displays especially during the annual Lemon Festival, when they are transformed with giant citrus sculptures and themed decorations that draw visitors from all over the world. It’s also a perfect spot for journaling or reading a book while playing Love Story by Taylor Swift. “So, I sneak out to the garden to see you.”

7. Chase Sunsets at the Promenade

Evenings in Menton are slow and golden. I loved grabbing a seat near the old port to watch the sunset behind the colourful skyline and the stunning Menton facade. Then, head over to the restaurants for a glass of local rosé and some fresh seafood, and you’ve got the perfect Riviera evening. 🙂
